Piano
How I teach it
The first thing I teach is how to play the piano. Students learn posture, hand placement, and the proper way to use their fingers. The goal is to build the best possible habits as early as possible. Soon, our technique is put into practice as we learn our first song. The song is easy, instructive, and sounds great. After this, we begin a cycle of playing songs the student wants to learn, classical masterpieces, and musical exercises. The musical exercises teach fundamentals, music theory, and how to read music. Classical masterpieces are long-term projects, and personalized songbooks keep the student engaged. The idea is to keep students in a flow state; challenged but not overwhelmed.
